Perryn Reads to Davin

Gary had asked Perryn to watch/talk to Davin and he started "reading" a book to him. It's a book that he has memorized.

Perryn and Daddy Playing

Perryn recently got some new remote control cars from the movie Cars. In this video Perryn and Daddy are playing with them, but Perryn doesn't want Daddy to use the remote control, he just wants to push them around. You'll see he eventually takes the remote from Daddy and sets it aside.

Perryn and Mommy Make Cookies

Perryn helped me make cookies the other day. I was actually surprised how much he was able to help. He dumped all the ingredients in a bowl after I measured them, he rolled some of them in sugar and he unwrapped all the Hershey kisses that went on top.

Perryn's Trip to See Santa

We took Perryn to see Santa last weekend. When asked what he wanted he said "a piggy". We're not sure where that came from other than because Grandma C gave him a stuffed piggy when she was here for labor day. When Santa asked him what kind of a piggy he wanted he said "a big one".

Here's a couple pictures:

Perryn's New Room

We've finished the painting! Yay! Now we just need to finish assembling furniture and we're waiting on a chair that we ordered.

Perryn seems to like it. He gets up on his bed and points out the animals and names them off.

Perryn's New Big Boy Bed

We've been busy getting Perryn's new room ready so the new baby can have the nursery. The paint is in progress, but we wanted to make the transition as soon as possible since we only have a couple more months before the baby will be 'stealing' his room. We set the bed up in the middle of the room for the time being. We're actually not finished putting it all together either, but it's now in a state that it can be used. It has some tents that go on it. We got the slide on last night, so Perryn was busy trying that out. We successfully put him to bed in it last night and I would say that night #1 went pretty well. I did have to stay in his room longer than normal to make sure he wouldn't get out of bed. Thankfully he was really tired last night because he didn't take a nap yesterday, so that helped. Once he went to sleep, he stayed there until about 7a.

Here's a picture of him (and daddy) trying it out right before bath time

Dentist

Perryn had his first dentist appointment yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised how well it went. It was a pediatric dentist, so they are all setup for kids. When we got there, there was a waiting room with some video games and TV. Once they took us in further, there was a play room with toys and books and of course Perryn jumped right in to playing. When the dentist came over, she took him to a seat which was almost completely lying down and there was a TV on the ceiling. She let him put sunglasses on because of that big light they use. He opened up when she asked and never whined a bit. She counted, checked and brushed his teeth and said all was good. He answered her "yes or no" questions and then was excited to get a sticker and a prize. Very successful first visit! I didn't think to take my camera though.

Perryn and Max's Swimming Playdate

Perryn's friend Max came over to go swimming today. Here's some video from the fun we had. It's a little long because I strung several short clips together.

Swimming

Have I mentioned I got a new camera that does video and I'm loving how easy it is to convert to a movie I can upload? That's the reason for all the new videos lately. Here's one from last night of Gary and Perryn in the pool. Perryn is really interested in the pool noodle, but not quite sure how to use it. This is Gary trying to help him figure it out.

Here's a second clip from last night of Gary throwing Perryn in the air and then Perryn swimming.

Perryn with his new flashcards

Here's Perryn showing off how he knows shapes and colors. He's certainly not perfect with saying the words or identifying them, but he's definitely been learning a lot.

Another Swimming Lesson

Here's the clip from yesterday. He had fallen asleep on the way there (30 min drive) so he seemed like he really wasn't in the mood for swimming. Other days, he's been much happier about it. This is his second to last lesson though, so thought I would post so everyone can see how he's progressed. He's doing much better with the back float part.

There's a first time for everything

File this under "Father of the Year" ...

Rachelle, Perryn and I were out shopping this past weekend. We just walked into a store and had to go up the escalator to get to the second floor. Without thinking anything of it, I headed to the escalator ... with Perryn right in front of me.

See where this is going yet?

It didn't occur to me that Perryn had never ridden an escalator before and the mechanics of such are not exactly intuitive for a two-year-old. As luck would have it, he stood right on the seam between two steps and lost his footing as the flat surface separated and began to rise at different rates. Luckily, he didn't go toppling down the steps. He just sort of stumbled in front of me. Then as he tried to stand up, he instinctively tried to support himself by putting his hands on the side wall. Of course, the side wall wasn't moving, so he kind of lost his balance again. From that point, I was able to help him up and off the escalator.

In the end, it wasn't that big of a deal - no boo-boos or anything. But I sure felt bad about the incident.

Little boys don't like haircuts

Perryn didn't put up much of a fuss for his latest haircut, but I wouldn't exactly say that he enjoyed it.

First Happy Meal

After the Carnival we went to McDonald's for lunch with Perryn's buddy Max. Perryn and Max played on the toddler slide a little bit and then Perryn got to enjoy his very first happy meal. What kid doesn't like a happy meal? I was actually surprised because he hasn't been a big fan of meat, period. Maybe McDonald's burgers don't count as "meat".

Spring Carnival

Perryn's Daycare had a Spring Carnival last weekend and I thought I'd share photos from all the fun he had.

First, he got to pet the bunnies and other animals.

Then he and his buddy Max played with various bubble making tools

He had lots of fun on the "big kid" play equipment that he doesn't normally get to play on.

They also had a bounce house and Perryn was thankfully one of the first to go in because it quickly collapsed and they never got it going again. He enjoyed it while he had the chance.

Driving

Perryn and I were out running errands this afternoon. When we got back home, I opened the back door to unstrap him from his car seat. He apparently wasn't ready to get out of the seat, because he wasn't cooperating with me. So I undid the straps and started bringing groceries into the house, figuring he'd climb out when he was ready. This is what I saw after dropping the bags in the kitchen and coming back to the garage.

Snowball fight

Dallas saw some record-breaking snowfalls this weekend. Only a few inches, so I'm not complaining to my family back east, but record-breaking nonetheless. Here's a picture of Perryn throwing his very first snowball.
